About IICS 3.1 Certified Welding Inspector

IICS 3.1 Certified Welding Inspector is generated to certify Welding Inspector. Based on your working experience in the welding industry, you will be entitled to be entitled as IICS 3.1A Certified Associate Welding Inspector and IICS 3.1 Certified Welding Inspector.

To be eligible for certification, candidates must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Meet experience requirements
  • Meet medical requirements
  • Pass the eye test
  • Pass the written examination

IICS 3.1 - Certified Welding Inspector

Associated Welding Inspector

minimum of 2 years (within the recent 3 years)

  • Experience in welding-related assignments, or
  • Related to duties and responsibilities of an Associate Welding Inspector under qualified supervision, independently verified
Welding Inspector minimum of 2 years (within the recent 3 years)
  • Conducts inspection of welding, based on usage, condition and performance

Welders or Maintenance Technicians, Supervisors or Foreman

QA/QC Personnel in the field of crane manufacturing, maintenance or repair

Note: In order to get approved for the examination it will be required to attend the crane inspector training.

minimum of 2 years (within the recent 3 years)

  • Welding related work experience

Medical Requirements

Certified Welding Inspectors (IICS 3.1A or IICS 3.1) must be in good physical health, sufficient enough to handle the physical demands that welding inspections require.

Pass mark is 70%. If the overall passing mark couldn’t get achieved the individual part, which has been failed shall be retaken.

  • Review of a welding procedure (WPS/PQR) in accordance to ASME IX - SMAW, GTAW, FCAW or GTAW processes

  • Completion of a welder certificate (WPQ) in accordance to ASME IX
    - SMAW, GTAW, FCAW or GTAW processes

Practical

  • Visual Inspection of a plate butt weld for compliance to a code provided by the Test Center

 

Time Allowed: 30 minutes

  • Visual Inspection of a pipe butt weld (not fractured) for compliance to a code provided by the Test Center

 

Time Allowed: 30 minutes

  • Visual Inspection of a set of destructive test samples (one macro, bend or fractured fillets) for a welder
    or procedure approval test, intended to comply to a code provided by the Test Center
